Credit River is located in the southwestern metropolitan area. It begins in New Market Township and flows through lakes and wetlands, and Murphy-Hanrehan Regional Park before entering into the Minnesota River near the city of Savage.The main NPS (Nonpoint Source) monitoring station in the Credit River Watershed is Credit River near 126th St in Savage, River Mile 0.9. The station was originally located at Credit River in Savage, River Mile 0.6. However due to difficulties at that location, the station was moved to its current location at River Mile 0.9 in 2000. The monitoring station measures the water quality of Credit River before it enters into the Minnesota River. Samples are collected at regular intervals for baseflow and also during storm events. This station also has automatic monitoring equipment which takes measurements every 15 minutes.
