Minnehaha Creek is located in the west-central metropolitan area. It begins at the Gray’s Bay outlet of Lake Minnetonka, running through wetlands, forests, grasslands, and urban areas before plunging over the 53-foot-tall Minnehaha Falls and flowing into the Mississippi River. The creek provides opportunities for recreational activities, like canoeing and fishing, and for scenic viewing along park trails.Minnehaha Creek at 32nd Ave, River Mile 1.7 was a WOMP (Watershed Outlet Monitoring Program) station until 2013. It monitored the water quality of Minnehaha Creek just upstream from Minnehaha Falls. Samples were collected at regular intervals for baseflow and also during storm events. This station also had automatic monitoring equipment which took measurements every 15 minutes. This continuous data can be found under the "Time Series" dropdown in the "Data Collected" section located farther down on this webpage. Minnehaha Creek Watershed District continues to sample the Minnehaha Creek downstream from the Council's former WOMP station. The Metropolitan Council continues to calculate and publish loads beyond 2013 using data provided by the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District and the USGS.
