Purgatory Creek is located in the western metropolitan area. It has two headwater sources: Silver Lake and Lotus Lake. It runs 16 miles through lakes, marshes, forests, and urban areas before flowing through the bluffs of the Minnesota River Valley and into the Minnesota River. The watershed of the creek lies mostly in Eden Prairie and Minnetonka and also covers small parts of Deephaven, Shorewood, and Chanhassen.Purgatory Creek at Pioneer Trail in Eden Prairie, River Mile 3.9 is a WOMP (Watershed Outlet Monitoring Program) station which started operating in 2014. Samples are collected at regular intervals for baseflow and also during storm events. This station also has automatic monitoring equipment which takes measurements every 15 minutes.
